We run a standard costing system on all our contracts and keep precise records enabling us for example to trace a wall colour used on a contract up to ten years previously.
The company is a member of the Natal Master Builders Association (50 Years) and the Institute of Painting Contractors. Our associates NKOMO DECORATORS cc, is 90% black owned and between the two companies we employ approximately 100 people. We subscribe to the Building Industry Training Fund. We are committed to maintaining our position as the “can do” company – able to respond to our clients needs at any hour 365 days a year.
Our Company has it’s origins in the County of Antrim Northern Ireland in 1921 when Samuel Caruth and Sons was founded by Alexander’s father. Alex was only 4 years old then but along with his eight siblings, joined the family firm on leaving school. Alex was a high achiever and hard worker. He was capped twice as an Irish Schoolboy International and served in the Royal Air Force during World War 2.
After the war he headed to London to take part in reconstruction work and it was here that Alexander Caruth Decorators was founded. In 1961 Alexander and his family emigrated to Central Africa moving south to south to Durban in 1963. Alexander Caruth Natal was founded in March 1964. In those early months Alex bundled painters, pots & ladders into an old Morris Minor Station wagon but steadily built the firm from there.
In 1971 son Geoffrey joined his father and took over as MD in the early 80’s. Today the company is a leader in it’s field working throughout KZN and the Eastern Cape, the fourth generation of the family has joined Geoffrey, training to take the company into the future for more generations.
